Percy Machell killed in battle


July 7, 1916

Lt. Colonel Percy Wilfrid Machell of the Border Regiment has been killed in action in France, reports the New York Times.  He was 55 years old and served as Commander.   He was killed on July 1 and was buried at Warloy-Baillon.

Colonel Machell married Lady Valda (Victoria( Alice Leopoldine Ada Laura Gleichen, the third child of the late HSH Prince Victor of Hohenlohe-Langenburg and his wife, Lady Laura Seymour.   Prince Victor, who also had the title Count Gleichen, was the son of Queen Victoria's elder half-sister, Princess Feodora, the wife of Carl, the 4th Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.

He is survived by his widow, Lady Valda, and their only child, Roger Victor Machell, who will celebrate his 8th birthday on July 23.
