The Busy Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin

April 20, 1907

The dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin  are "very much in the public eye, "reports the New York Times.    The ruling Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV is about to "grant his country a constitution."

Three of the Grand Duke's uncles have been taking on different responsibilities.

Duke Johann Albrecht will soon take over as a Regent of the Duchy of Brunswick.

Duke Heinrich -- now Prince Hendrik of the Netherlands -- was a part of a rescue team off the Hook of Holland earlier this year.

Now comes the news that Duke Adolf Friedrich, is about to leave Schwerin for an "exploring tour through German East Africa."   The trip should last about 18 months.   Adolf Friedrich's interest in the colony dates from the time he visited Lake Victoria for a three month period.

He will receive funding from the "leading scientific institutions of Germany."
